What Luxury Hotels Look for When Hiring Wellness Staff

Luxury hotels evaluate wellness staff on several dimensions that most candidates overlook. Brand alignment is critical. A therapist applying to Soho House needs to project a very different energy than one applying to The Lanesborough. Research the property thoroughly before your interview. Presentation matters enormously. This extends beyond personal grooming to how you carry yourself, how you communicate with guests, and how you handle unexpected situations. Hotels observe everything during trial shifts. Commercial awareness is increasingly valued. Can you recommend an upgrade? Do you understand retail targets? Properties with high-performing spas generate significant ancillary revenue, and they want therapists who contribute to that. Finally, reliability. The spa industry has a reputation problem with last-minute cancellations and no-shows. Properties will always choose a slightly less experienced therapist who turns up consistently over a more skilled one they cannot depend on.
